The number of Americans filing first-time claims for unemployment benefits rose last week “to the highest level in almost four months.” The number of workers filing new claims for jobless benefits jumped 34,000 last week to 406,000. The filings exceeded economists’ forecast and were the most since the week that ended March 29.
