Politico’s Ben Smith reports that the RNC is staffing up for a new, in-house think tank designed to revive the party’s “policy heft.” The think tank will be named the Center for Republican Renewal, and it is the result of many inside the conservative movement viewing the 2008 electoral failures as “in part, a product of stale ideas.” Campaigning for a second term, RNC Chairman Mike Duncan said that the think tank is part of his “10-point plan” to make the GOP “an accelerator of change.”
Update
RNC officials aren’t the only ones cooking up a right-wing think tank. President Bush is planning to launch an institute attached to his presidential library that will promote his vision.
