Coburn tells seniors: ‘You’re going to die soon’ if the Senate health care bill passes.

This past summer, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin fearmongered against passing health care legislation with stories about government-mandated “death panels” that would decide whether older citizens or the disabled would live or die. The newest iteration of this fear was stoked by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) this morning on the Senate floor. Coburn, addressing specifically seniors, said, “I’ve got a message for you: you’re going to die soon.” Watch it:

Of course, the health care bill won’t kill seniors. But what we do know — as Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) reminded us — is that if we do not achieve significant reform, 45,000 Americans will continue to perish every year simply because they did not have access to proper health care coverage.
