"Eric Cantor Campaigns For His Book But Refuses To Debate His Opponents"
Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Paul Ryan (R-WI), and Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) are currently doing media events and book tours to promote their new book, “Young Guns: A New Generation of Conservative Leaders.” The book touts itself as documenting how young Republican leaders like Cantor, Ryan, and McCarthy “are changing the face of the Republican party and giving us a new road map back to the American dream.”
Yesterday, Cantor appeared at a bookstore in Richmond, Virginia, to hold a book signing event. Outside, protesters — including his Democratic opponent Rick Waugh — called attention to the irony that while Cantor is willing to campaign for his book, he has failed to host even a single debate with either Waugh or tea party candidate Floyd Bayne:
As Congressman Eric Cantor signed copies of his book “Young Guns,” a long line of people waited to meet the man they hope will soon become the next House Majority Whip. Supporter Sandy Pettengill said, “I have six children, and five grandchildren and I’m scared to death, absolutely scared to death what’s going on in our country.”
As a packed crowd lingered inside, a few protestors stood outside the Broad and Libbie Barnes& Noble store. Among the protestors was Cantor’s Democratic opponent Rick Waugh. “He won’t debate us, he won’t have town hall meetings,” complained Waugh.
Local news station CBS 6 covered the protests. Watch their report:
