Speaking at a press conference in New York today, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said of his campaign, “we certainly fly by the seat of the pants.” Gingrich was responding to a question referencing a New York Times article that quoted an unnamed campaign aide as saying, “The reality is we’re flying by the seat of the pants.” What Gingrich meant to say is that his campaign is able to adapt quickly, but his word choice reflects criticism that his candidacy is often erratic and seemingly disorganized.
