GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is well known for his penchant for Tiffany jewelry, but according to a Gingrich speaking contract obtained by the Smoking Gun, the former House speaker’s tastes for the finer things extend from airfare to…the bathroom? Indeed, the contract stipulates that “Mr. Gingrich requires a non-smoking one-bedroom suite (preferably with two bathrooms)”:
The rest of the contract spells out pretty typical “first class expenses” for someone being paid $60,000 to give a speech — “first class airfare,” upscale hotel accommodation for Gingrich and an aide, meals and incidentals — but the bathroom requirement is truly curious.
It’s worth noting that as Gingrich fended off allegations that he made a fortune peddling influence for corporations, he said he couldn’t possibly be a lobbyist because, “I was charging $60,000 a speech.”
