Central Connecticut State University was placed on lockdown just after noon on Monday after campus officials sounded the alarm over an unspecified campus emergency.
Initial reports from people on the scene — and since confirmed by university officials — are of an armed individual inside one of the buildings on campus, located just south of Hartford. Potential eyewitnesses and a few reporters on the scene have claimed the person is armed with a gun and possibly a knife or some other kind of blade.
Local and state police are on hand, along with multiple S.W.A.T teams.

The university began alerting students and visitors via social media and the school’s website, urging people to avoid the campus and remain inside and away from windows if they are already there.
1:39 PM: To clarify, there have been no reports of any shots being fired or of any injuries. Police are currently moving building to building and escorting students away from the campus.
1:44 PM: A reporter for the Hartford Courant is confirming — citing multiple law enforcement sources — that police on the scene are in fact in pursuit of an individual inside James Hall, one of the dormitories on campus. The Courant and Fox CT adds that police are in contact with the individual who is boxed in a room inside James Hall.
2:04 PM: A university spokesman spoke with a Hartford Courant reporter on the scene:
University spokesman Mark McLaughlin said that shortly before noon, someone reported seeing an armed man on campus, outside James Hall. McLaughlin heard that the man had a gun and a sword, but that information is not confirmed, he said.
Police activated a campus-wide alert telling students to get into the nearest building and “shelter in place,” meaning lock doors, if possible, and to stay away from doors and windows.
He said there’s been no report of an active shooter, no reports of injuries and no report of any hostages.
2:32 PM: A former police officer who is currently a student at CCSU told FoxCT that he witnessed a masked individual enter James Hall while brandishing a handgun and with multiple magazines visible in his fatigues. He also said the suspect had some kind of sword strapped to his back and was carrying a very large bag.
2:39 PM: Via Twitter, a photograph appears to show police leading out an individual in handcuffs. Unclear if this is the person that entered James Hall with a weapon.

3:01 PM: The chief suspect, an unidentified student at Central Connecticut State University, is in the custody of CCSU police, according to New Britain Mayor Tim O’Brien. The all-clear has not yet been given, and there is no word as of yet on who the other individuals seen in handcuffs are.
3:24 PM University officials at CCSU have lifted the lockdown on campus after police apprehend the suspect. No injuries have been reported. Classes remain canceled today, but the security threat has abated, according to campus police. There is still no word of a possible motivation by the suspect.
