Father’s Day seemed like a good time to post the video of my remarks on the Mall at the huge Earth Day event (see “Over 100,000 rally for climate and clean energy action“):

This was maybe 50 times larger than the largest crowd I’ve ever spoken to, and such a crowd requires purely rhetorical speechmaking.  I had originally been scheduled for three minutes — and wrote out remarks for that time slot — but about 45 minutes before I went on, I (like many others) was told to shorten my remarks to about a minute.

Such situations do not leave much time for substance, but I did keep in the one core message that “Global warming means local (super) storming.”

The whole experience ended up being quite a rush, especially with my daughter on stage.  I also got to meet James Cameron and do intend to blog on that later.

Happy Father’s Day, Joe. Not to be too gushy, but I think in some ways you are also a “father figure” to many of us in the blogosphere: you father good ideas and important causes, you are a steady provider of knowledge and information, and, like a good father, you provide wisdom and your own variety of guidance when most others throw up their hands in confusion and consternation. So, well, thanks Dad. :)

I might have unknowingly heard you speak, Joe. I was backstage for the religious leaders’ opening call to action and in the audience for much of the afternoon. I would love to refresh my recollect and see your remarks again but it seems you’re using Flash video. Will you be switching to an HTML5 container soon?

Good one, Joe. A lot of us are inspired by the quality of your work, and the clear and relentless way that you are able to communicate it.

As I’ve said before, your motivation comes from the love that you feel for your daughter, which gives you courage and determination. I’m on the same page with Malcolm, my 14 year old son.

I have a 2 month old son. You are my hero man….seriously, I’m not kidding around. Thank you again and God DAMN republicans for doing this to our kids! (those of you in the know, know what I’m talking about….for those of you who think that sounds partisan do some research on republicans. They are defective and sickening human beings and have thwarted environmental progress at every opportunity for the last 30 years).

Great (albeit concise) speech brother! Many of us are rooting for you behind the scenes at every step.
