House Rejects Libya War Authorization

A resolution to grant President Obama authorization to continue fighting as part of a NATO coalition in Libya failed to pass the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives in a 123-295 defeat. Seen as a rebuke of Obama’s failure to get congressional authorization to fly missions and support other NATO operations in Libya’s civil war, the resolution is the first of two to be taken up today by the House. A debate on the second, a resolution to defund most U.S. operations, is expected this afternoon.
