Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s talking points about violent extremists aboard the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla are crumbling under scrutiny. Reports yesterday in the Israeli press quoted IDF spokespersons on the violent intentions of flotilla participants. But today, Israeli ministers told the paper Maariv that they had seen or heard no evidence of this in their cabinet meeting, calling it “public relations hysteria” and adding that the press reports were “the exact opposite of what we were given.” Separately, journalist Max Blumenthal called an IDF spokesperson to ask if they had evidence or if any had been passed to the Israeli reporters who wrote the stories. The IDF was not able to answer his questions.
