House Reverses Course, Passes Amendment Cutting $124 Million For Military Bands

Yesterday, the House approved by voice vote a GOP-sponsored measure to strip a provision in the defense appropriations bill that would have cut $120 million from the Pentagon’s $320 million budget for military bands. Democrats argued that the money could be better used for programs such as food assistance for low-income Americans. But today, the House reversed course, passing, by a vote of 226-201, Rep. Betty McCollum’s (D-MN) amendment to the defense funding bill to strip $124 million from the military band budget.
