Bolton: The U.S. ‘Should Be Squeezing And Disciplining Moscow, Not Caressing It’

Former Bush administration ambassador to the U.N. and AEI fellow John Bolton in an op-ed today lashed out against Russia’s effort to broker a mediated solution to the Libyan crisis. “We should hope that Russia fails,” he writes, adding, “Mediation was never the correct answer here.” The solution for Bolton, of course, is that the enemy must be pounded into submission. “NATO, once committed, must prevail by force of arms,” he said. Bolton, who continues to frame U.S.-Russian relations in a Cold War framework, warns “Make no mistake: Welcoming Russian intercession between NATO and a military opponent like Libya is nothing less than a massive humiliation for the Western alliance.”
