"Huntsman: We Need Only ’10,000 Or 15,000′ Troops In Afghanistan"
GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman seems to have read the tea leaves of American public opinion and is trying to get to the left of President Obama on the war in Afghanistan. “After a decade of fighting and thousands of American lives lost, it is time to bring our brave troops home,” says his campaign website. And Huntsman said in his foreign policy speech earlier this month, “We could go from 100,000 boots on the ground to a much smaller footprint in a year.” But Huntsman hasn’t offered much in the way of specifics on how many troops he’d leave in Afghanistan. However, last night on Fox News, the former Utah governor said his plan would require 10,000 to 15,000 troops. “We need something, but not 100,000 troops,” he said. “We need intelligence and special forces and training capabilities. That may be 10,000 or 15,000.” Watch the clip:
