A poll released yesterday by the nonprofit San Francisco-based Asia Foundation found that support for the Taliban among Afghans has declined steadily in recent years. Eighty-two percent of Afghan adults support reconciliation and reintegration efforts with insurgent groups. Yet the survey also found that “the number of people who said they sympathized with the aims of Taliban had dropped to 29 percent compared to 40 percent last year and 56 percent in 2009.”
