"Splinter Syrian Opposition Group Throws In With Free Syria Army"
The unity of a mostly-exiled Syrian opposition umbrella came into question as 20 of the 270-member Syrian National Council (SNC) split off to form the Syrian Patriotic Group. In a statement, the splinter group vowed to “bring down the regime with all available resistance means including supporting the Free Syrian Army” (FSA). U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed concerns about arming the FSA. “What are we going to arm them with and against what? We’re not going to bring tanks over the borders of Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan,” she said. The New Yorker’s Jon Lee Anderson noted last week, in a piece reported from Syria, “Even the F.S.A. does not know yet what it is.“
