Salman Rushdie Slams Bloomberg For ‘Philistine’ Act Of Dismantling Occupy Wall Street Library

One of the most disturbing parts of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s raid on Occupy Wall Street yesterday involves the protesters’ library. Over the course of nearly two months, the demonstrators had amassed a public library of at least 5,554 books. Police confiscated this entire library, and it is currently unknown exactly what is being done with this property.

Famed author Salman Rushdie, who has had his books burned in the past, sounded off on Twitter, slamming Bloomberg for this “philistine” act:

Activists have started to rebuild the Occupy Wall Street library, hoping also to recover their books and laptops taken by the police, the latter of which are rumored to have been damaged.
