Three Occupy D.C. Protesters Begin Hunger Strike For Full D.C. Voting Rights | Three protesters at Occupy DC plan to begin a hunger strike today in support of full voting rights for Washington, D.C. residents, the Washington Post reports. The trio has named its effort “Occupy the Vote DC” and is calling for full legislative and budget autonomy and full representation and voting rights in Congress. District residents can vote in presidential elections and have a non-voting delegate in Congress, and D.C.’s budget and legislation passed by the city council is subject to congressional approval. D.C. Vote, a voting rights advocacy group, is not sponsoring the strike but did issue a statement in support. “Like so many other Americans, they are sick and tired of D.C.’s second class status,” the organization said.
