Romney Adviser: Romney Will ‘Stand Up Next To’ Birther Donald Trump | Mitt Romney adviser Kevin Madden defended the campaign’s association with Donald Trump during an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Friday afternoon, saying that the former Massachusetts governor will “stand up next to Donald Trump and he’ll talk about why he wants to be president.” Romney will host a fundraiser with Trump next month, despite the reality TV star’s renewed claim that President Obama was born in Kenya. “Anytime the subject goes off of that, or if something where …Governor Romney would disagree, he’s going to make that very clear,” Madden claimed, but did not say if Romney would rebuke the birther conspiracy in front of Trump. Trump: ‘The Truth’ Is That Obama Was ‘Born In Kenya’ | In an interview with the Daily Beast published today, Donald Trump asserts that Obama was born in Kenya, not the United States. Trump told Lloyd Grove, “That’s the way life works… He didn’t know he was running for president, so he told the truth. The literary agent wrote down what he said… He said he was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia… Now they’re saying it was a mistake. Just like his Kenyan grandmother said he was born in Kenya, and she pointed down the road to the hospital, and after people started screaming at her she said, ‘Oh, I mean Hawaii.’ Give me a break.” Trump is playing an active and high profile role in the Romney campaign, and is scheduled to appear at a major fundraiser with Romney on June 28. Romney has previously made efforts to distance himself from birther conspiracy theorists.

Trump Embraces Birtherism, Romney Embraces Trump

In recent days, Donald Trump has intensified his efforts to advance discredited birther conspiracy theories against President Barack Obama. But that hasn’t stopped presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney from making Trump a major focus of his campaign.

Today, Romney announced a major campaign event with Trump next week, at the reality TV star’s International Hotel in Las Vegas. Romney is also soliciting low dollar contributions to win a meal with Trump. The campaign has published this flyer:

Trump rose to prominence early in the GOP presidential primary, at one time leading in the polls, by promoting birther conspiracy theories against Obama. In April 2011, he said:

I have people that have been studying it and they cannot believe what they’re finding…it’s one of the greatest scams in the history of politics and in the history, period. You are not allowed to be a president if you’re not born in this country. Right now, I have real doubts.

Trump has not dropped the argument since. He has questioned the legitimacy of Obama’s long-form birth certificate. In the last few days he has tweeted the following:

Trump officially endorsed Romney at an event in February. He was used extensively in primary states to bash Romney’s opponents and in February recorded robocalls trashing Rick Santorum in Michigan. In March, Ann Romney called him an “honorary Buckeye” after Romney’s victory in Ohio. There are now plans for Trump’s pro-Romney calls to go national.

Top Romney Surrogate Trump: Campaign Should ‘Go After Obama’ On Rev. Wright

Last week, Mitt Romney distanced his campaign from third-party efforts to use Rev. Jeremiah Wright against President Obama. But this morning his campaign’s top surrogate advised the Massachusetts governor to dredge up the old racially-tained narrative. “[I]f I were Mitt and Mitt is a very honorable guy, he stopped the Reverend Wright ads and he was, you know, sort of opposed to them,” Donald Trump said during an appearance on Fox & Friends. ”I’d let him go at it,” he added, “if it’s going to be game on, let it be game on. Go after Obama”:

The reality star is building his political stature as a top surrogate for Romney and is “gaining juice and respectability in national politics.” Trump has recorded robo-calls ahead of key primary battles, participated in “a ton of talk radio for Romney in Michigan, Arizona and Ohio,” received personal “thank you” shout outs from Ann Romney during campaign victory speeches, and even hosted a birthday fundraiser for the couple.

Four-Time Chapter 11 Champ Donald Trump: ‘Monstrous’ Wind Turbines Will Make Scotland ‘Go Broke’

A protester hits Trump's hair with a balloon.

Donald Trump is on a warpath against wind turbines, because they may obstruct the view of his billion-dollar golf resort in Scotland. Protesters greeted Trump today as he asked Scotland to abandon a project to build 11 offshore turbines.

Trump has encountered controversy on his golf resort from the start, since he bulldozed over environmentally sensitive sand dunes.

With his resort due to open in July, Trump has only heightened the attacks. In February, while digging up 1,235 acres for his resort, he said wind farms are “destroying” Scotland. In March, he called windmills “disgusting.”

Now, Trump says they will destroy Scotland’s economy:

“Scotland, if you pursue this policy of these monstrous turbines, Scotland will go broke,” Trump told the group. “They are ugly, they are noisy and they are dangerous. If Scotland does this, Scotland will be in serious trouble and will lose tourism to places like Ireland, and they are laughing at us.” [...]

“When challenged to produce hard evidence about his claims on the negative impact of turbines, Trump said: “I am the evidence, I am a world class expert in tourism.”

Trump knows a lot about going broke. As ABC reported last year, “Donald Trump — or companies that bear his name – have declared bankruptcy four times.”

Trump also said the project “is the most serious problem that Scotland will have or has had.”

That is unlikely, however much the 11 turbines seem like the end of the world to Trump.

Anti-Women Surrogate Trump Hosts Birthday Fundraiser For Ann Romney

Last week, Ann Romney became her husband’s point-person on the so-called “war on women” when she accused Democrats of not valuing the work of stay-at-home moms and went after CNN contributor Hilary Rosen (who is not an Obama adviser, but is a CAPAF board member) for saying that she hadn’t worked outside of the domestic sphere. The campaign went into overdrive trying to paint all Democrats as insensitive to women who choose to raise their children, only to admit hours later that Mrs. Romney saw the barb as a political “gift” she could exploit in order to help Mr. Romney close his widening gap among women voters.

This afternoon, just five days after the “controversy,” the Romneys will be participating in a special birthday fundraiser at the home of top campaign surrogate Donald Trump, further eroding their credibility in the “war on women.” Trump, after all, has a long history of misogynistic rhetoric and behavior that is far more offensive than even the least generous interpretations of Rosen’s comments. Below are Trump’s most sexist comments:

1. “I think [Attorney] Gloria [Allred] would be very very impressed with [my penis].” [2012]

2. “[Rosie O'Donnell is] not a smart person,” “a stone cold loser,” “a bully” “a slob,” “disgusting,” “an animal” and a “very unattractive woman both inside and out.” [ 2007]

3. “[Angelina Jolie's] been with so many guys she makes me look like a baby, OK, with the other side. And, I just don’t even find her attractive.” [2006]

4. “You know, it doesn’t really matter what [the media] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of [expletive].” [1991]

5. “Well, you know ‘The National Enquirer’ did a story they said, ‘Who’s had more supermodels than any man ever in history?’ ‘Let’s name ‘em, let’s each of us name ‘em’ ‘I’ve had a lot of them, I’ll tell you that.” [2011]

6. “All of the women on ‘The Apprentice’ flirted with me- consciously or unconsciously. That’s to be expected.” [ 2011 ]

7. “I think the only difference between me and the other candidates is that I’m more honest and my women are more beautiful.” [ 2000]

The birthday luncheon has already netted over $600,000 for the Romney campaign, a Trump spokesman tells CBS News, and the campaign has asked the businessman to “host a similar fundraiser when Romney secures the Republican presidential nomination.” “[T]ickets to that event would sell for $50,000 and 50 donors have already expressed interest in attending.”

Meet The Romney Campaign’s Anti-Women Surrogates

Yesterday, Democratic strategist and CAP Action board member Hilary Rosen — a partner in a PR firm who has no role in the Obama campaign — said on CNN that Ann Romney has “never worked a day in her life.” Almost immediately, the Romney campaign falsely labeled Rosen an “Obama adviser” and demanded the Obama campaign distance itself from this non-advisor. The Obama Campaign swiftly responded that Rosen’s comments were “inappropriate and offensive.”

Now that President Obama has distanced himself from this fake advisor’s statement, it’s time for Mitt Romney to show his commitment to women’s rights by also distancing himself from actual members of his campaign who’ve disrespected women or women’s rights. Unlike Rosen, these anti-woman Romney supporters are official advisors to Romney’s campaign or top campaign surrogates that Romney has proudly shared a stage with:

  • Donald Trump: The flamboyant reality show star is “a top Mitt Romney surrogate” according to Politico’s Mike Allen. Trump recorded robo-calls supporting Romney in primary states and he participated in “a ton of talk radio for Romney in Michigan, Arizona and Ohio.” Trump also has a long history of sexism, including telling the male contestants on his reality show to “rate the women” contestants on how sexually attractive they are. Calling TV personality Rosie O’Donnell a “big, fat pig” and an “animal,” after she criticized Trump. And, just this month, offering to expose his “very, very impress[ive]” penis to a top woman attorney. The top Romney surrogate, however, is also quite unfazed by criticism of his sexism. As he told Esquire in 1991, “it doesn’t really matter what [the media] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of [expletive].”
  • Bay Buchanan: Yesterday, in an attempt to overcome Romney’s weak poll numbers with women voters, the Romney campaign hosted Bay Buchanan on a press call as an official campaign surrogate. Bay, the sister of disgraced former TV pundit Pat Buchanan, has a long history of opposition to women’s rights. In a 2003 speech on the “four failures” of feminism, Bay Buchanan claimed that women are being “sold a bill of goods” when they pursue careers instead of having children, and she compared modern women to “alleycats” with respect to sex.
  • Robert Bork: Former judge and failed Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork is the co-chair of Romney’s “Judicial Advisory Committee.” Bork opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which bans employment and other discrimination against women, calling the idea that laws can require private companies to cease discriminating a “principle of unsurpassed ugliness.” More recently, the top Romney legal advisor mocked the very idea that gender discrimination even exists. In Bork’s words, “[i]t seems to me silly to say, ‘Gee, they’re discriminated against and we need to do something about it.’ They aren’t discriminated against anymore.”

Mitt Romney either believes that women who claim gender discrimination are “silly” or he does not. He either believes that women who express their sexuality are “alleycats,” or he does not. And he either believes that it is acceptable for one of his campaign’s top surrogates to offer to expose his genitals, or he does not. If the Obama campaign needs to disassociate himself from its non-advisor, than the least Romney can do is prove that he does not think women like Lilly Ledbetter are silly by abandoning his campaign’s most sexist advisors and surrogates.

Miss Universe Opens Competition To Transgender Women | The Miss Universe Organization announced today that after consulting GLAAD, it has opened its competition to transgender women. The decision stems from a complaint from Jenna Talackova, who was disqualified from the Miss Canada pageant for her gender identity. She has accepted an invitation to compete in the competition as she originally planned, and in future, all trans women will have the same opportunity.

Top Romney Surrogate Donald Trump Offers To Expose His ‘Very Very’ Impressive Genitals

Politico’s Mike Allen reported last month that reality star/businessman/attention seeker Donald Trump is building his political stature as a top surrogate for Mitt Romney. The controversial figure is supposedly “gaining juice and respectability in national politics,” Allen reports, has recorded robo-calls ahead of key primary battles and participated in “a ton of talk radio for Romney in Michigan, Arizona and Ohio.” The Donald even received personal “thank you” shout outs from Ann Romney during multiple campaign victory speeches.

It’a curious relationship and one that may prove dangerous for the Massachusetts governor, as he courts independent voters ahead of the general election. Trump is a shameless and at times unpredictable self-promoter whose history of misogyny will do little to help Romney’s low standing with women voters. After all, this is the same guy who described Rosie O’Donnell as a “very unattractive woman both inside and out” and a “fat slob,” allegedly required Miss USA pageant contestant to parade in front of him “so he could separate out those he found sexually appealing from those he did not,” and suggested that he would be dating his daughter and her “very nice figure” if he were not her father. Just yesterday, Trump inserted himself into the controversy surrounding a transgender contestant who had been disqualified from participating in his Miss Universe competition by offering to show his penis:

Donald Trump is confident … attorney Gloria Allred would be blown away by his man junk.

The Donald called in to TMZ Live moments ago, claiming, “I think Gloria would be very very impressed with [my penis].”

Donald’s genitals became a topic of contention earlier today during Gloria’s news conference with transgender beauty queen Jenna Talackova — when Gloria said, Jenna “didn’t ask Mr. Trump to prove he’s a naturally born man, or see photos of his birth, or to view his anatomy … It made no difference to her.”

But it makes a difference to Donald, who said he’d be willing to show what he’s got … if Gloria’s willing to pay the right price.

Donald also said he wouldn’t apologize for disqualifying Jenna last week from the Miss Universe pageant on the basis of her birth gender — even though he later reversed his position — and added, he “couldn’t care less” if Jenna even competes.

Romney courted Trump’s endorsement and even appeared alongside him to accept his support. And while one can’t ascribe Trump’s sexist comments to Romney, it’s a wonder that he feels so comfortable with Trump representing his candidacy to voters.
