Economics Reporter/Reseracher

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, ThinkProgress

Department: Communications

Staff reporting to this position: None

Position classification: Exempt, full-time

Summary
ThinkProgress has an immediate opening for an Economics Reporter/Researcher to research, report, and write about economic issues for ThinkProgress.org and coordinate with the ThinkProgress War Room.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and research for ThinkProgress.
  • Report specifically on the economy, education, and related issues.
  • Other research projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Deep knowledge of economic issues.
  • Familiarity with ThinkProgress and the progressive blogosphere.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly respond to news developments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Knowledge of HTML, Photoshop, RSS, social networking/bookmarking and media-monitoring services helpful but not required.

Preferred experience:

  • Experience writing for an online audience.
  • Experience writing on politics and policy, specifically economics.

 

Social Media Reporter

Reports to: ThinkProgress Social Media Editor

Department: Communications

Staff reporting to this position: None

Position classification: Exempt, full-time

Summary
ThinkProgress has an immediate opening for a Social Media Reporter to help us drive the progressive policy discussion online. The Social Media Reporter will play an important role in an expanding team focused on building the organization’s presence and impact in social media.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce content for American Progress social media channels.
  • Develop and execute social media growth strategies.
  • Help coordinate social media advocacy campaigns with internal and external partners.
  • Assist with social media analytics reporting.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr and Pinterest.
  • Familiarity with graphic design concepts and graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly to news developments.
  • Familiarity with American Progress, ThinkProgress and the progressive blogosphere.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Commitment to American Progress’s mission and goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • One to three years of experience in online communications preferred but not required.
