Gallup does a poll where the assess the public’s feelings about various different industries, and 2008 shows a noteworthy darkening of the public mood with ratings declining across the board. Indeed, out of 25 “industries” only seven (grocery industry, banking, restaurant industry, retail industry, internet industry, computer industry, and farming and agriculture) are in net positive territory. People like the restaurant industry the best, while just 19 percent approve of the oil and gas industry and you really have to wonder what’s wrong with that 19 percent.
UPDATE: Oops! Those numbers are from the 2007 column, pre-disgruntlement. In 2008 only restaurants and computers are in majority-positive territory.
