Monday Girl-Kisses-Girl Song Blogging

churchsign.jpg

A church sign in Ohio wants to remind you that kissing a girl may be fun, but the eternal damnation is kind of going to suck. That’s via a displeased Jessica Valenti who’s got a statement from Kim Welty of Equality Ohio. My understanding is that though Leviticus does say that “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads” (20:13, soon before “If a man lies with a woman during her monthly period and has sexual relations with her, he has exposed the source of her flow, and she has also uncovered it. Both of them must be cut off from their people”) the Bible doesn’t actually say anything about a woman lying with a woman.

Be that as it may, the reference, of course, is to Katy Perry’s hit “I Kissed a Girl”:

Miriam offers more thoughts on the song. As a connoisseur of nineties music, of course, the rise of Perry’s song has mostly reminded me of Jill Sobule’s 1995 hit “I Kissed a Girl”:

Sobule’s song is worse than I’d remembered.
