Washington Post takes a look at Senator Mitch McConnell’s effort to keep his seat. That this race is even remotely close is remarkable. Kentucky’s a solidly conservative state and also one whose demographics are very much tilted against Barack Obama. And McConnell’s leadership position in the GOP ought to give him a leg up. But it seems, perhaps, that using that leadership position to get Senate Republicans to react to 2006 by binding themselves even more tightly to the agenda of an unpopular incumbent president wasn’t such a hot idea.
