Mona Sutphen was recently announced as one of Barack Obama’s Deputy Chiefs of Staff. This seems like a good opportunity to plug the book she recently co-authored with my colleague Nina Hachigian. It’s called The Next American Century: How the U.S. Can Rise While Others Thrive. It combines a tour de horizon of the rising powers, and makes the case for the vital importance of a form of American leadership that involves cooperation with the other major powers on the common challenges we face.
I think these are important issues that haven’t gotten the attention they deserve in the public debate over the past few years. Looks like they may get the attention they deserve inside the White House. And note that the Obama team continues to fill out the White House staff before getting around to the high-profile cabinet slots people are eager to hear about.
