"The Math of Repeal"
With repealing health reform the right-wing fetish point of the day, it’s worth observing that it’s literally not possible for Republicans to win enough Senate seats in 2010 to pass anything over Barack Obama’s veto.
If they won every single Democratic-held seat that’s up in 2010, and held on to Ohio, New Hampshire, and Missouri the Republicans would be up to 59 Senators—far, far short of the 67 you’d need. To repeal health care, you need to win the 2012 Presidential election, which I think is generically unlikely. What’s more, there’s a fair chance the Republican nominee will be Mitt Romney who doesn’t even really disagree with the main tenets of what passed last night.
