One of the less understood weird aspects of American life is the gargantuan sums of money that replacement-level conservative pundits can make in speaking fees:
The speaking agency that represents Stein says that he usually gets $45,000 per engagement (plus first class airfare) and claims he’ll still be paid for the Citi speech.
There’s clearly some kind of market failure here. I, personally, would be more than happy to fly coach to speak at the corporate event of your choosing in exchange for $45,000. Indeed, for that kind of money I would be happy to say I believe that cutting taxes on rich people is the key to prosperity. I’m even willing to work for less than $45,000 (possibly much less) if I don’t need to pretend to be conservative.
