The latest New York Times poll confirms something I’ve noted before, namely that the Democrats’ handling of the debt ceiling deal, though unpopular, was less unpopular than the alternative:

In a zero-sum contest, that’s good enough. But the problem for President Obama’s re-election campaign is that he needs to run against Perry/Romney/Bachmann not Boehner/McConnell.
