Inequality Before The Crisis

Jennifer Preston reports for the New York Times that the 99 percent movement has sparked discussion of economic inequality across a range of social media platforms, so I thought I’d join in with this classic chart showing the pre-crisis explosion of inequality:

I focus a lot of my time on demand-side, short-term issues and my fond hope that policymakers will step up to the plate and restore us to the full employment conditions we enjoyed in 2006 and 2007. But it’s always worth recalling that we ought to aspire to something better than that slow-growth, high-inequality, concentrated rewards economy that we had.
