"You Don’t Know What I’m All About"

Leon Neyfakh’s article about academic “Punk Studies” is framed around a different idea, looking at the punk rocker past of Samuel Goldman (a cool guy in real life, incidentally) who’s now just a regular academic with no particular specialization in punk. But I think his view that “In fact, most people would probably say that academia in general is about the least punk thing a person could ever be a part of” is kind of a mistake.

I think the punk scene and the humanistic branches of the academy have some important things in common. They both involve a kind of deep rejection of the logic of market exchange.
