87 Percent Of U.S. Counties Lack Abortion Providers

While Mississippi is on its way to eliminating the state’s last abortion provider, it is not alone in making most of its residents travel long distances to find a provider. Mississippi is one of 32 states to have the dubious distinction of lacking abortion providers in more than 80 percent of their counties. Thirty-three percent of women of reproductive age living in the US reside in one of the 87 percent of U.S. counties without an abortion provider. On the other end of the spectrum, abortion providers exist in more than 50 percent of counties in only seven states:
