Rob Pitingolo, writing about the impact of rising rents on the economic viability of coffee shops, writes that “Barista wages and coffee prices likely don’t waver much from city to city, but the amount a coffee shop pays to its landlord every month can and does vary greatly.”
As it happens, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has data on this by state and there is in fact some non-trivial variation:
