Billionaire Casino Mogul Sheldon Adelson Says He’ll Double Down On GOP — Literally

After he and his wife spent a total reportedly in the neighborhood of $150 million on independent expenditures to help elect a mostly unsuccessful slate of 2012 Republican candidates, Sheldon Adelson says he will double his contributions next time around. Adelson told the Wall Street Journal that his 2012 donations were double what he gave in 2008 and that he was ready to double his spending again. “I’ll spend that much and more,” he pledged, “Let’s cut any ambiguity.” In 2004, the general election campaigns of President George W. Bush and Sen. John Kerry — combined — spent less than $150 million. With an estimated net worth of almost $25 billion, Adelson could theoretically spend $500,000 on every single Republican House and Senate nominee for the next 186 years.
