California Assembly Committee Advances Bill To Protect Patients From Ex-Gay Therapy

After hearing testimony from victims of ex-gay therapy, California General Assembly’s Committee on Business, Professions And Consumer Protection voted 5–2 to endorse S.B. 1172, a bill to protect patients from the harmful “treatment.” State Sen. Ted Lieu, the bill’s sponsor, noted that “bans quackery and junk science in the form of reparative therapy.” The measure now heads to the full Assembly.
