Carleton College Faculty Oppose Minnesota Inequality Amendment

Faculty at Carleton College passed a resolution this week opposing Minnesota’s proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. According to the resolution, the amendment would “undermine and impede the College’s efforts to recruit and retain the very best students, faculty and staff members,” and is also a violation of the campus’s commitment to “mutual respect, communication, and engagement.” Numerous other Minnesota university faculties have taken similar stances, including the University of Minnesota, William Mitchell College of Law, Hamline University, Gustavus Adolphus College, Macalester College and St. Olaf College.
