Catholic Church Spent $2 Million Fighting Equality In 2012

According to a new report from the Human Rights Campaign, the hierarchy of the Catholic Church and its affiliate, the Knights of Columbus, spent nearly $2 million this year opposing marriage equality. This is in addition to the more than $5.2 million spent by the National Organization for Marriage. Together, these groups alone were responsible for 65 percent of all the money spent fighting same-sex marriage in Minnesota, Maryland, Washington, and Maine. HRC notes that 60 percent of Catholic voters actually support marriage equality.
