CHART: Facebook Support For Occupy Groups Surged By 10 Percent Since Zuccotti Eviction

When New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg evicted protesters from Zuccotti Park last week, he probably thought he was dampening their spirits and reducing momentum for the movement. But as Tech President’s Micah Sifry shows, the eviction had the opposite effect, at least by one metric. Sifry tracked the Facebook “Likes” on the various Occupy Facebook Groups and found that they surged by 10 percent since the eviction. He visualized this in the following chart (November 11th is the baseline date for comparison, with the number of groups compiled by Shane Castlen):
