New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has responded to anti-gay comments made by high school teacher Viki Knox, describing them as “disturbing” and not a positive example “to be setting for folks who have such an important and influential position in our society.” Knox has been scrutinized nationally for writing that homosexuality is a “perverted sin” that “breeds like cancer” on her Facebook wall. Some students have also indicated her anti-gay rhetoric has entered the classroom. Christie has a fairly positive record on LGBT issues, signing the country’s toughest anti-bullying bill into law and endorsing the “born this way” reality of LGBT identities.
