Jesse Angelo, editor-in-chief of Rupert Murdoch’s new iPad-only news app “The Daily,” sent a memo to staff recently saying, “Egypt is over” and ordering them to find something “awesome” like “the oldest dog in America, or the richest man in South Dakota.” On Twitter, ThinkProgress provided a tip for Angelo’s underlings: “Note to enterprising @daily reporters: America’s oldest dog is Uncle Chi Chi. He lives in the West Village.” Last night on the Colbert Report, host Stephen Colbert gave our reporting some attention on cable TV:
COLBERT: Of course, Rupert Murdoch’s enemies on the left at ThinkProgress had to go find the oldest dog in America themselves. … As reported by ThinkProgress, the oldest dog in America is the 23-year old Uncle Chi Chi, who lives right here in Manhattan. … Guess what ThinkProgress, you scooped the Daily, well I’m scooping you!
