‘Maybe the cause of global warming is the head of the EPA blowing smoke up the oil industry’s [rear].’

Since the election, comedian Stephen Colbert has emerged as the king of late night by brilliantly holding a mirror up to team Trump’s own inanity.

Friday night, Colbert took on EPA administrator Scott Pruitt’s absurdly anti-scientific claim that CO2 is not “a primary contributor to the global warming that we see.” Colbert pointed out EPA’s own website explains “Carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse gas that is contributing to recent climate change.”

“You really shouldn’t contradict your own website,” Colbert noted. “That’s like BuzzFeed saying they don’t believe a quiz can tell you if you’re a Lumière or a Cogsworth.”

Who knows how long the EPA website will have the actual science of global warming on it? Team Trump has already scrubbed the word “science” from the mission statement of EPA’s Office of Science and Technology.

Colbert saves the best shade for last: “Maybe Pruitt’s right. Maybe CO2 isn’t the number one cause of global warming. Maybe the cause of global warming is the head of the EPA blowing smoke up the oil industry’s ass.”

The sad truth is we’ve known for over a century that CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels are the #1 cause of global warming.
