Five sheriff’s deputies have been shot and at least one killed in the Denver, Colorado suburbs early Sunday morning while responding to a domestic disturbance, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Two civilians were also injured. The suspect has been shot and the situation is no longer active.

The shooting occurred at an apartment building 16 miles south of Denver, according to reports. Before updating that the suspect had been shot, the sheriff’s office urged people in the area to stay inside and avoid windows and exterior walls.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, at least 15,455 people have been killed by guns this year and 30,981 injured. A total of 314 incidents have involved officers shot or killed and 2,067 incidents involved an officer shooting or killing an individual.
