Election 2004 Flashback

To me, the striking thing about last night’s debate is that Mitt Romney didn’t vanish into a puff of smoke at the merest mention of “Obamacare” or anything. So while it’s always dangerous to reason by historical analogy, I’m in the course of trying to convince myself that he can win the nomination and I find myself reminded of this amusing bumper sticker from the 2004 campaign:

The dynamic here, as I recall, is that the first instinct of Democrats in 2004 was to be really mad at George W. Bush and thus want to vote for the candidate who best mirrored that anger. But the more reflective posture was to be really made at George W. Bush and thus want to vote for the candidate who seemed most electable.
