Erdoğan: Turkish Warships Will Protect Future Gaza Flotillas

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told Al Jazeera television that Turkish warships would defend future humanitarian flotilla journeys to the besieged Gaza Strip, according to Reuters. The move comes in the wake of a deterioration of Turkish-Israeli relations after the release of a U.N. commission report on the Israeli commando raid that left eight Turks and one American dead. The report said the Gaza-bound flotilla acted “recklessly” against a legal blockade, but said the deaths were nonetheless “unacceptable.” Due to Israel’s refusal to apologize for the raid, Turkey expelled the Israeli ambassador and cut military ties last week.
