For several days, Donald Trump has insisted that “thousands” of Muslims in New Jersey cheered the fall of the Twin Towers on 9/11. This is not true.

But today on Fox News, Eric Bolling not only defended Trump but upped the ante. Bolling claimed that he remembered the celebrations from “news reports about Jersey City.” According to Bolling, Muslims in Jersey City “were on the roofs watching the planes fly in” because “they were tipped off prior to the thing.”

Bolling cautioned that he wasn’t sure how many American Muslims were cheering the fall of the Twin Towers but “who cares if it was a thousands or a handful.”

This was too much for Bolling’s co-host, Greg Gutfeld. “If Bernie Sanders said there were thousands of pro-lifers cheering the Colorado shootings, everybody at Fox would go, ‘show me the proof,’” Gutfeld countered.

The Trump campaign seemed to embrace Bolling’s conspiracy theory. The clip of Bolling’s comment was tweeted by Daniel Scavino Jr., a senior adviser to Trump.
