France’s Junior Minister for Family Dominique Bertinotti announced today that the country’s new Socialist government is set to legalize same-sex marriage next year. Upon his election last month, Prime Minister François Hollande committed to advancing both marriage equality and same-sex adoption rights. The socialist party secured an absolute majority in Parliament, ensuring, as Bertinotti explained today, “Within a year, people of the same sex will be able to marry and adopt children together. They will have the same rights and duties as any married couple.”
