House Ways And Means Chairman Owns Stock In Nearly Half The Companies He Has Called To Testify On Tax Reform

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) has been holding a series of hearings on corporate tax reform over the last few months, where he has pushed his plan to cut the corporate income tax from 35 percent to 25 percent. Thirteen corporate executives have been called on to testify at these hearings, and as Bloomberg News pointed out, Camp owns shares in six of those companies. “To try to pull off this image of holding an impartial educational hearing and then bring in the very same executives representing the companies in which you have a personal investment, that’s not something I hear very often,” said Craig Holman, of the government watchdog organization Public Citizen.
