Former Utah Gov. and Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman (R) “refused, bizarrely, to describe himself as a conservative” at a recent campaign stop in Hancock, NH, according to a New York Times profile published today. Huntsman, who is currently considering a presidential bid, has stood apart from his party on issues like climate change, economic stimulus, and immigration. Earlier this month, he told ThinkProgress that he did not think his consistent support for civil unions would hurt him with social conservative voters.
