Indiana Senate Advances Marriage Inequality Amendment For 2016 Consideration

The Indiana Senate voted 32–17 Monday to approve House Joint Resolution 3 on final reading, which would add an amendment to the state constitution banning same-sex marriage. The Senate delayed convening today while Republicans considered whether they could re-add the second sentence, which was removed by the House. This edit to the amendment prevents it from advancing to the ballot this year, because this new version must now be considered by a second legislative session, meaning it can not be put to the ballot until 2016, at the earliest.
