Jobless Claims Rise To 417K On Back Of Verizon Strike

New unemployment claims rose to 417,000 last week, up 5,000 from the previous week, as a labor dispute between Verizon and the Communications Workers of America forced thousands of workers to file for jobless benefits. At least 8,500 of the claims came from the dispute between Verizon and the CWA, according to the Department of Labor.
