Welcome to Justiceline, ThinkProgress Justice’s morning round-up of the latest legal news and developments. Remember to follow us on Twitter at @TPJustice

  • Despite the fact that eighteen judicial nominees await confirmation on the Senate floor, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) thinks Senate Republicans deserve praise for lifting their blockade on two whole nominees during lame duck.
  • The Supreme Court held that when the federal government temporarily floods land, it can be required to compensate the owner of that land.
  • The Egyptian Supreme Court indefinitely suspended its work on Sunday, saying it would not operate until it could do so without “psychological and material pressure” from protesters aligned with President Mohamed Mursi.
  • David Lat, the man who brought you such terms as “judicial superhotties” and “litigatrix” gets profiled.
  • And, finally, Florida Senate President Don Gaetz (R) delivers a surprisingly delightful smackdown to a tea partier insisting that Florida pass an unconstitutional law nullifying the Affordable Care Act:
  • KrisAnne Hall, a Wellborn lawyer, lost her job as an assistant state attorney rather than stop espousing her views at tea party rallies and talk-radio forums two years ago. She confronted Senate President Don Gaetz after the two-hour committee hearing and told him the plan “is not the law of the land.”
  • “Oh? The Supreme Court didn’t get your message, or you didn’t get theirs?” Gaetz, R-Niceville, replied.
  • “They didn’t get James Madison’s message,” Hall said.
  • “Let me know if James speaks to you on this,” Gaetz told her.
