Lesbian Couple Challenges Michigan’s Marriage Discrimination Amendment

April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse, a lesbian couple, recently filed suit against the state of Michigan to be legally recognized together as the adoptive parents of their three special-needs children. When they first submitted their complaint, Judge Bernard A. Friedman called state’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage the “underlying issue” and encouraged them to expand the complaint to challenge it directly. On Friday, they announced they were filing a new legal challenge to do just that. Watch the couple explain how the protections are important for their children:
