Just hours before London buses were scheduled carry a Christian advertising campaign promoting ex-gay reparative therapy, mayor Boris Johnson, intervened to prevent the campaign. The posters would have appeared on five different routes in the capital and would have read, “Not gay! Post-gay, ex-gay and proud. Get over it!” “London is one of the most tolerant cities in the world and intolerant of intolerance,” Johnson said. “It is clearly offensive to suggest that being gay is an illness that someone recovers from and I am not prepared to have that suggestion driven around London on our buses.” Johnson’s political opponent is arguing that the mayor “should never have allowed the adverts to be booked” in the first place.
